Dispatches and Disappearances
Watercolor, ink and burn drawings on wood panels
“Things reveal themselves passing away.”
—attributed to William Butler Yeats
In a series of watercolor, ink and burn drawings on wood panels, Sasha Chavchavadze explores the disappearance of things, whether through changing technologies or the passage of time. The work suggests a reverence for shard-like objects and commonplace tools that are rapidly becoming defunct.
I dedicate this exhibition of recent work in memory of my husband, Toby D’Oench. Remembering his generous praise of my work and encouraged by friends to join bkbx gallery, I returned to clay this year. This new body of work interprets rocks and stones (ishi in Japanese), and considers expressions of nature and universe in each piece.
